How Much Does a $100 Bet Pay?

If you are new to sports betting, the odds on your bet slip tell you exactly how much you will win. But reading American odds is not intuitive for everyone. When you see +200 or -150 on a game, it is not immediately clear what your payout would be on a $100 wager.

This guide answers that question directly. I have built a complete payout table showing what $100 pays at every common odds level, from heavy favorites like -500 to big underdogs at +1000. Whether you are placing your first bet or just want a quick reference, this page gives you the numbers without the math. I have been betting for years and I still pull up payout tables when I want to quickly compare value across different odds levels. For a deeper dive into how odds work, see our full guide on how to calculate odds in betting.

article Summary

A $100 bet at -110 (standard odds) wins $90.91 profit. At +200 (underdog), it wins $200 profit. The formula: for positive odds, multiply $100 by (odds/100). For negative odds, divide $100 by (odds/100). Use the payout tables in this article for quick reference at any odds level.

$100 Bet Payout Table: Favorites

When odds are negative (like -110 or -200), you are betting on a favorite. The number tells you how much you need to bet to win $100 in profit. Here is what happens when you bet exactly $100 on favorites at common odds levels.

  • -110 odds: $100 bet wins $90.91 profit. Total return: $190.91. This is the standard line for most sides and totals.

  • -120 odds: $100 bet wins $83.33 profit. Total return: $183.33.

  • -130 odds: $100 bet wins $76.92 profit. Total return: $176.92.

  • -150 odds: $100 bet wins $66.67 profit. Total return: $166.67.

  • -200 odds: $100 bet wins $50.00 profit. Total return: $150.00. You are risking $100 to win $50.

  • -250 odds: $100 bet wins $40.00 profit. Total return: $140.00.

  • -300 odds: $100 bet wins $33.33 profit. Total return: $133.33.

  • -500 odds: $100 bet wins $20.00 profit. Total return: $120.00.

The pattern is clear: the bigger the favorite, the less you win per $100 risked. At -500, you are putting up $100 to win just $20. I have learned to be very cautious with heavy favorites. One loss at -500 wipes out 5 wins at the same odds. The risk/reward math on favorites over -200 almost never makes sense for straight bets unless you are building a parlay.

$100 Bet Payout Table: Underdogs

When odds are positive (like +150 or +300), you are betting on an underdog or a less likely outcome. Positive odds tell you how much profit you win on a $100 bet.

  • +100 odds: $100 bet wins $100 profit. Total return: $200. This is an even money bet.

  • +110 odds: $100 bet wins $110 profit. Total return: $210.

  • +120 odds: $100 bet wins $120 profit. Total return: $220.

  • +150 odds: $100 bet wins $150 profit. Total return: $250.

  • +200 odds: $100 bet wins $200 profit. Total return: $300. This means the implied probability is 33.3%.

  • +300 odds: $100 bet wins $300 profit. Total return: $400.

  • +500 odds: $100 bet wins $500 profit. Total return: $600.

  • +1000 odds: $100 bet wins $1,000 profit. Total return: $1,100.

Underdogs are straightforward: the number after the + sign IS your profit on a $100 bet. +200 means $200 profit. +500 means $500 profit. The higher the number, the less likely the sportsbook thinks the outcome is. During the 2025 NFL season, I tracked every underdog bet I placed at +200 or longer. They hit about 28% of the time (you only need 33% at +200 to break even), which reinforced that finding value in the expected value sense matters more than just picking underdogs randomly.

How to Calculate Betting Payouts Yourself

You do not need a table for every situation. Two simple formulas cover any American odds.

For Positive Odds (+150, +200, etc.)

Profit = Bet Amount x (Odds / 100)

Example: $100 bet at +150. Profit = $100 x (150/100) = $100 x 1.5 = $150 profit. Total return = $250.

For Negative Odds (-110, -200, etc.)

Profit = Bet Amount / (Odds / 100)

Example: $100 bet at -150. Profit = $100 / (150/100) = $100 / 1.5 = $66.67 profit. Total return = $166.67.

What About Other Bet Amounts?

These formulas work with any bet amount. If you bet $25 at +200: Profit = $25 x (200/100) = $50 profit. If you bet $50 at -110: Profit = $50 / (110/100) = $45.45 profit. The ratio stays the same regardless of bet size. That is why experienced bettors focus on the odds rather than the dollar amount. A +200 bet is the same value whether you wager $10 or $1,000.

If you want to skip the math entirely, most sportsbook apps show the potential payout on your bet slip before you confirm. Tools like odds comparison tools also display payouts automatically when you compare lines across books.

Why the Same Bet Pays Differently on Different Sportsbooks

One thing that surprises new bettors is that the same game can have different odds at different sportsbooks. The Chiefs might be -150 on DraftKings but -145 on FanDuel. That difference changes your payout on a $100 bet from $66.67 to $68.97 in profit. It does not sound like much on one bet, but it compounds over time.

The Vig (Juice) Explanation

Sportsbooks build their profit margin (called the vig or juice) into the odds. On a standard -110 / -110 line, you are paying $110 to win $100 on either side. The sportsbook collects $220 from both sides and pays out $210, keeping $10 as profit. Different books set different margins, which is why odds vary. Reduced juice sportsbooks like Novig cut the vig significantly, meaning you keep more of your winnings.

Why Line Shopping Matters

Getting -145 instead of -150 on every bet means earning roughly 2% more over hundreds of bets. This is called line shopping, and it is the single most impactful habit for profitable bettors. I check at least 3 sportsbooks before placing any bet over $50. The 30 seconds it takes to compare odds has been worth thousands of dollars across a full season. Line shopping apps automate this process by showing you the best available odds across all your sportsbooks in one screen.

Final Thoughts

The answer to "if I bet $100, how much do I win?" depends entirely on the odds. At standard -110, you win $90.91. At +200, you win $200. The payout tables above cover every common odds level you will encounter. The more important question is whether the odds represent value. Getting +200 on a bet that should be +180 is a better bet than getting +300 on something that should be +400. Understanding payouts is the first step; learning to identify value is what separates recreational bettors from profitable ones.
