Prediction markets regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission list sports event contracts as federally supervised products rather than state licensed sportsbooks. Missouri is pushing back. On September 18, 2026, Attorney General Catherine Hanaway sent cease and desist letters to six operators (Kalshi, Polymarket, Crypto.com, Novig, Underdog, and Robinhood) telling them to stop offering sports event contracts to Missourians unless they obtain a Missouri Gaming Commission license. Reports put the compliance window at 30 days, which runs to about October 18.
What That Means for You
Nothing is settled. Federal courts have split on whether state gaming law reaches CFTC regulated sports contracts, and operators have challenged similar orders in other states.
